Do I Need a Humidifier for My Baby?
If you are shopping for humidifiers for your baby, congratulations! All of us at Miro sends love. We are grateful that you are considering our product for your baby's first room.
We will cover some basics to ensure that you are getting the right humidifier for your baby.
Do I Need to Get a Humidifier for My Baby?
The American Academy of Pediatrics(AAP) recommends getting a humidifier for your baby's room. While we want to wholeheartedly recommend getting a humidifier, the answer to this question is going to really depend on your environment.
Get a humidistat to measure the relative humidity(RH) of your environment. If the RH is below 40%, we strongly recommend getting a humidifier. Your environment may still be dry due to factors like HVAC system even if you live in a generally humid area. Always remember that outdoor environment is different from indoor environment.
Many experts recommend keeping the RH between 40% and 60%. Many adults will feel that the environment is pleasant at around RH 40%. There is a general agreement amongst experts that babies require slightly higher RH, and recommends keeping the nursery RH at 55%.
Cool Mist or Warm Mist?
Many experts recommend cool mist humidifiers over warm mist humidifiers. Warm mist humidifiers may accidentally burn your baby.
Where Is the Best Place to Put a Humidifier in a Nursery?
The answer to this question is universal: place the humidifier where the mist can disperse into your environment.
You want to avoid placing your humidifier where the mist will directly hit your baby. Ensure that the humidifier is placed high or the mist is shooting up. This will ensure that the mist gets spread throughout your environment.
Make sure to test your humidifier before. Remember that you want to keep your RH at around 55%. The output setting may differ based on the size of the room.
How Often Do I Need to Clean the Humidifier?
As often as possible! Anything that uses water develops molds very quickly. You want to ensure that you clean your humidifier often. We do not recommend using a humidifier with a filter since the filter can become a breeding ground for bacteria.
Miro humidifiers are perfect for baby rooms. Miro humidifiers are completely modular; you can clean every single part that touches water with just dish soap and sponge. Miro humidifiers are also powerful and come with various output setting. It is perfect for small, medium, and large rooms.
