Olivia vs. Leukemia GoFundMe Donation
Olivia is a seven-year-old whose world had been turned upside down after being diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) on July 13, 2020. In honor of her story, Miro will be donating a portion of our August proceeds to Olivia’s GoFundMe.
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) is a type of cancer of the blood bone and marrow. Blood cells are produced in the bone marrow, so when bone marrow becomes jeopardized it affects the blood. It progresses rapidly and creates immature blood cells instead of mature ones. Blood cell production becomes abnormal and the bone marrow produces lymphoblasts that are unable to function properly. These immature cells build up and can inhibit the function of healthy cells. Symptoms include bleeding from the gums, frequent infections, fever, bone pain, pale skin, shortness of breath, lumps caused by swollen lymph nodes, frequent or severe nosebleeds, weakness, fatigue, or a general decrease in energy. ALL occurs in both children and adults, though in adults it is rare and there is a decreased chance of a cure is greatly reduced. There has been significant medical advancement so over 90% of children make a full recovery. There is hope for Olivia but not without cost.
Olivia will have to undergo treatment for the next three years. There are a lot of expenses that come along with the treatment including extended care for Olivia and both expected and unexpected hospital bills. And so, Miro has pledged to donate to Olivia’s cause.
